Maya Shkolnik is a visual artist based in New York City. She is receiving her BA in Computer Science and Russian Literature at Columbia University in May 2025. She studied Russian at the University of Oxford in 2024.

Shkolnik bridges documentary and conceptual photography to capture images that are “atmospheric,” according to her dad. Her subjects are inspired by coursework in psychoanalysis— her own family, expressions of need, and her self-image.

She photographed weekly meetings for the United Nations Association in NYC and assisted photographer Emmie America for Vogue Portugal in July 2024, in December 2023 in collaboration with the Meduza Project, and in July 2023 for Nike. In 2024, she hosted a summer group art show titled “Immediate Art” showing 20 friends’ works in her unfurnished apartment.
